Changing a SafeGuard Seat Back Module

The SafeGuard School Bus seat is the only seat in the industry with the option of equipping a bus with seats without lap-shoulder belts and in the future installing seat back modules with lap-shoulder belts. This unique feature allows school districts and all types of transportation programs to plan for the future while keeping costs of adding additional safety technology to a minimum. This feature is convenient for maintenance personnel when lap-shoulder belt repair is necessary. Maintenance technicians can remove a seat back that needs repair and install a seat back with lap-shoulder belts.

The removal of the beltless seat module with the lap-shoulder belt module has an installation time of 8 to 20 minutes dependent on the type of tools used.

Step 1: Remove seat cushion (4 swivel latches).
Step 2: Loosen bolts (2 Torx 50 screws at each module hinge) holding the seat module in place. Do this to all four bolts holding the seat module.
Step 3: Lift the beltless seat module out of the seat.
Step 4: Install seat module with lap-shoulder belts.

Step 5: Tighten bolts that were removed in step 2.
Step 6: Position belt webbing on the outside of the seat, insert bolt and tighten.
Step 7: Insert bolt in retractor and tighten.
Step 8: Replace the plastic cover on retractor.

Step 9: Replace seat cushion..
Step 10: Installation is now complete.
