Q: Where is the safest location for my car seat?
Answer: Crash data show that children are generally safer in the middle of the rear seat.

Q: Do I need a locking clip?
Answer: The SafeGuard Child Seat has built in lock-offs which eliminate the need for a locking clip. As always, check the seat for a tight installation before every trip.

Q: What is the LATCH system?
Answer: LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) is a system to install Child Seats in a vehicle without using the vehicle safety belts. It's now a federal requirement that all vehicles and most Child Seats manufactured after September 1, 2002 are equipped with LATCH. Some vehicle manufacturers implemented LATCH earlier than 2002, so check the owner's manual.

Q: What is a tether strap, and when should it be used?
Answer: The tether strap is located on the back of the Child Seat, near the top. The tether strap connects to an anchor point in the rear of the vehicle (please see the vehicle owners manual for location details) to help prevent forward movement of the car seat in the event of a collision. We recommend that you use the tether at all times.

Q: Can I use LATCH in the center position of my vehicle seat?
Answer: Please reference the vehicle owner's manual for the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations. As long as the vehicle manufacturer states that is a LATCH approved position, and the spacing between the lower anchors is 11 - 20 inches apart, you may install the SafeGuard Child Seat in the center.

Q: I can't find the tether anchors in my car? Am I looking in the right place?
Answer: Tether anchors can be located in different areas depending on the vehicle. Common locations are in the rear window, on the vehicle roof, and behind the seat on the floor. Be careful not to confuse the tether anchors with cargo tie down locations. Reference the vehicle owner's manual for specific tether anchor locations and details. Older vehicles may not have these anchors, but most can be retrofitted at no cost. Contact the vehicle manufacturer or a dealership for details.

Q: How do I know if the SafeGuard Child Seat is installed securely?
Answer: The seat shouldn't move more than 1 inch when pulled side to side or front to back (hands are to be positioned near the belt path). Always make sure the seat is secure before each trip. If you're unable to get a tight installation, please visit a local Child Seat fitting station for assistance. To locate a fitting station, please contact the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT or call SafeGuard Customer Service at 1-800-586-7839.

Q: Will the SafeGuard Child Seat fit in my car?
Answer: Vehicle compatibility was a huge factor in the seat's design. We fitted it into some of the most popular vehicles. Please refer to our Vehicle Compatibility Guide for a list of vehicles in which we have installed the SafeGuard Child Seat.

Q: Can my child wear bulky clothing?
Answer: During the cold months, this is hard to avoid. However, heavy coats can keep the harness from fitting the child properly, so use the yellow fine tune knob located on either side of the seat to make the necessary adjustments. It is important that the harness is adjusted securely before every use of the child restraint.

Q: Should I check my vehicle owner's manual before installing the seat?
Answer: It's very important to make sure the vehicle manufacturer doesn't have restrictions or recommendations. Always compare the SafeGuard Child Seat manual to the vehicle manual. In the case of a discrepancy, call SafeGuard customer service at 1-800-586-7839.

Q: What if the vehicle headrest interferes with the SafeGuard Child Seat?
Answer: Remove the headrest if the vehicle owner's manual allows and secure it to keep it from becoming a projectile. If the headrest can't be removed, make sure the SafeGuard Child Seat is securely installed. Call SafeGuard customer service with any questions at 1-800-586-7839.

Q: Are there any vehicles that I can't install the SafeGuard Child Seat in?
Answer: Never install the SafeGuard Child Seat in a side facing seat, a boat, or an RV. It should only be installed on a forward facing seat with a lap belt, lap and shoulder belt, or using the LATCH strap. Please refer to our Vehicle Compatibility Guide for a list of vehicles in which we have installed the SafeGuard Child Seat.

Q: What do I do if one side of the harness is longer than the other side?
Answer: The harness routes around the seat with one continuous piece of web, so if one side is tighter than the other side, just pull on the tight side until the two sides are even. Use the yellow fine tune knob to remove any slack.

Q: I'm having trouble loosening the harness. I pushed the yellow button on the front of the seat but the harness didn’t release when I pulled it.
Answer: Push the yellow button and pull on the harness while still holding the button.

Q: What is the tension indicator on the tether used for?
Answer: If your SafeGuard Child Seat is equipped with a tension indicator, it should be used when installing the tether. When slack has been removed from the tether strap, you will see a silver color appear in the tension indicator window. A tether can reduce the amount of forward motion in a crash, so we recommend that you use the tether at all times.
