Answer: If the child sits all the way back against the vehicle seat and the child's knees bend comfortably over the edge of the seat, the lap belt fits snugly and lies across the upper thighs, the shoulder belt lies across the collar bone and center of the chest (without crossing the neck), and the child can stay this way for the entire trip, then your child should be the right size to ride safely without a booster. Some states require that a booster seat be used until the child reaches a specified height, weight, or age.
Question: What is the LATCH system?
Answer: LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) is a system to install child seats in a vehicle without using the vehicle safety belts. It's now a federal requirement that all vehicles and most child restraints manufactured after September 1, 2002 are equipped with LATCH. Some vehicle manufacturers implemented LATCH earlier, so check your owner's manual.
Question: What is a top tether strap, and when should it be used?
Answer: The top tether must be used with the SafeGuard Go when the 5-point harness is used. The tether strap is located on the top of the SafeGuard Go and connects to an anchor point in the rear of the vehicle (please see the vehicle owners manual for location details). The top tether secures the 5-point harness to the vehicle and helps prevent forward movement of the child restraint in the event of a collision
Question: Can I use LATCH in the center position of my vehicle seat?
Answer: Please reference the vehicle owner's manual for the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations. As long as the vehicle manufacturer states that it is a LATCH approved position, and the spacing between the lower anchors is 11 - 20 inches apart, you may install the SafeGuard Go in the center.
