SafeGuard School Bus Seat Goes Public
Automotive Passenger Safety for the Yellow School Bus
Westfield, Indiana
September 15, 2003 -IMMI announces the delivery of the first school bus equipped with SafeGuard School Bus Seats with lap-shoulder belts to a public school in Central Valley, New York. The Monroe-Woodbury Central School District, located in Central Valley, New York took delivery of the 16-passenger Girardin school bus with lap-shoulder belts on June 16, 2003. New York State has required all school buses to be equipped with lap belts since 1987 and recently the New York Association for Pupil Transportation (NYAPT) has proposed a resolution that could lead to the installation of lap-shoulder belts and their mandatory use in the future.
"Monroe-Woodbury has always tried to be progressive in trying new technologies to make our young passengers safer," said Cliff Berchtold, Transportation Director for Monroe-Woodbury School District. "This change in occupant protection may be the next big improvement in school buses and we are proud to try it in the field."
The Monroe-Woodbury Central School District has put the bus equipped with SafeGuard seats to use this summer transporting students attending year-round school and plans to use the bus on a variety of routes this school year. Cliff Berchtold took delivery of the 16-passenger Girardin school bus from Mike Leonard of Leonard Bus Sales in Deposit, New York.
"The delivery of the Girardin bus equipped with SafeGuard seats is our commitment to delivering a product to school districts that provides the safest form of pupil transportation possible." Said Mike Leonard, Owner of Leonard Bus Sales. "This is also an opportunity to strengthen the well-deserved reputation for New York State as being the leader in school bus safety."
Public and private schools, national daycare facilities, Head Start and disability programs are using safeguard Seats nationwide. SafeGuard is a versatile seating solution for all types of school buses and it features an easy to use shoulder adjuster that makes it easy for kindergartners through high school students to adjust. The seat is available through school bus manufacturers in the United States and Canada, and is also available as replacement seats for newer school buses, giving school districts the option to convert their fleet of school buses from beltless to lap-shoulder belt equipped.
