Usage Policies

If you’re a district considering seat belts on your school buses, or even if you’ve already made the commitment to keep your students safer, an enforced usage policy is a must. Two districts that have seen tremendous success with installing seat belts on school buses have generously shared their policies below. They rigorously enforce these policies and take the added step to reinforce them with their drivers at least once a school year. As a result, both districts have nearly 100% compliance, and their discipline issues have been reduced by as much as 90% or more. Even bus drivers who were against installing the belts now love how much they have improved student behavior. As one driver told us, “They go home a lot less stressed at night.”

These two policies are great templates if you are trying to craft or update your own.
